    2013 Alabama Highlights

    Alabama's state schools enrolling students in online courses are required to provide students with the appropriate technology, adequate supervision, and technical assistance, in accordance with State Department of Education (SDE) online technology requirements for local implementation. Additionally, the state provides digital content to the districts at no cost to Local Education Agencies.    

    Current Strengths and Reform Opportunities

    • Students in Alabama are currently required to successfully complete and an online learning experience to earn a high school diploma
    • Connectivity and infrastructure is prioritized as all schools have high-speed broadband internet access
    • The state could improve its emphasis on quality by closing poor performing schools and courses based on student-performance data
