A Comprehensive State Policy Guide to Transform Education for the Digital Age
San Francisco, CA – Today, Governors Jeb Bush and Bob Wise, co-chairs of Digital Learning Now! released the Roadmap for Reform: Digital Learning during the Foundation for Excellence in Education’s National Summit on Education Reform 2011 – Education Everywhere.
The Roadmap for Reform provides Governors, lawmakers and policymakers with nuts-and-bolts policies to transition to a student-centered education that prepares students with the knowledge and skills to succeed in college and careers. Each state also received a report card that assesses current laws and policies and their alignment to the 10 Elements of High Quality Digital Learning.
“A decade ago, customizing education for every student was just a dream,” said Jeb Bush, Governor of Florida 1999-2007 and chairman, Foundation for Excellence in Education. “Harnessing the power of technology allows students to learn in their own style, at their own pace, anytime and anywhere. States leaders must act today to transform education and provide every student with a rigorous, high-quality, customized education that will prepare them for success in college and their careers. The Roadmap for Reform provides tangible steps for leaders to transform education for the digital age.”
“States have made good progress in bringing technology and digital learning into the classroom, but America has only begun to scratch the surface of what is possible,” said Bob Wise, Governor of West Virginia 2001-2005 and president, Alliance for Excellent Education. “Technology and digital learning can act as a ‘force multiplier’ to help states, districts, and schools ensure that all students can meet high standards and graduate prepared for college and a career in the midst of tough budgetary environments, increased global demands on student abilities, and a growing teacher shortage in critical areas.”
