Stephen Bowen on New Position
~ Maine Education Commissioner to Become Director of Innovation for CCSSO ~

Washington, D.C. – Today, the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) announced that Maine Commissioner of Education Stephen Bowen will lead the organization’s work on innovative practices in education starting in mid-September. Patricia Levesque, chief executive officer of the Foundation for Excellence in Education (ExcelinEd), and John Bailey, executive director of Digital Learning Now!, released the following statement congratulating Commissioner Bowen on his new position as Strategic Initiative Director of Innovation at CCSSO:

“Commissioner Bowen has led Maine to become a frontrunner in high-quality, personalized education through digital learning. From his time as a middle- and high-school teacher to his present role as state education chief, he has remained focused on preparing students for the challenges and opportunities ahead. We are excited to see Commissioner Bowen and CCSSO join forces to engage state education leaders on emerging innovative practices to improve schools and customize learning across the nation.”
