Digital learning puts the needs of children at the center of the education experience. Through the use of technology, students can be empowered to control the pace of their own education, ensuring comprehension, retention and growth, wherever they might live.

Recently, The Today Show and Education Nation focused on this development, asking, “What if an internet connection was the difference in getting a world class education?” and highlighting two organizations that are using technology to impact the lives and educations of students.

A chance to move past the factory model of school and rethink the traditional classroom, both Knewton and Khan Academy are expanding opportunity for students literally across the world.

Through the use of the adaptive platform at Knewton, almost 5 million students receive personalized recommendations for their learning. Taking the data collected by tests, and feeding it back into the program, students are able to receive instruction tailored to their strengths and weaknesses.

Over at Khan Academy, founder Sal Khan quickly realized that videos and YouTube could be used for more than videos of “cats playing piano.” His innovative videos and constantly expanding organization offer free resources which reach over 6 million students every single month, even all the way to Mongolia.
