Posts and stories featured at Digital Learning Now! try to highlight how schools in the U.S. are using technology successfully. The future of a customized education experience for every student is no longer a fringe movement or some Big Idea waiting to come to fruition. Digital Learning is mainstream and in our schools and classrooms. Last month, Sal Khan was on the cover of The Costco Connection, then suddenly he’s featured on the September 1st edition of 60 Minutes. Step onto a flight with Spirit Airlines and the in-flight magazine praises the benefits of a flipped classroom.
Today, there’s a must read article on Digital Learning from Emily Hanford and Stephen Smiths at American Radio Works. One Child at a Time is a longform piece of journalism and a compelling hour-long radio program looking into the history, status and promise of Digital Learning in the American classroom.
The article features our good friends at Carpe Diem and in Mooresville, NC. The show emphasizes the importance of customization and mastery-based learning and provides an in-depth look at the stories and lives of teachers and students in the middle of the digital revolution in schools.
Learning with a personal tutor is one of the oldest and best ways to learn. Hiring a tutor for every student was never a realistic option. Now, new computer programs can customize education for each child. But adding computers to classrooms isn’t likely to help unless teachers are willing to change their approach to teaching.
