DLN Report Card: Advancing Course Access in Michigan

In 2013, Governor Snyder and the Michigan Legislature took action to increase student access to quality digital learning opportunities. They did this by establishing Section 21f of the State School Aid Act (originally MI HB 4228). This law focuses on both course eligibility and access, providing guidance for families and districts regarding online learning options.

Florida has a robust history of offering students the opportunity to accelerate learning through Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Advanced International Certificate of Education, dual enrollment, industry certification and digital learning. This policy gives students and their parents another option to accelerate their learning and graduate early.

RELEASE: West Virginia Improves Innovation in Schools

Implementation of the Innovation Zones Act includes providing schools with support and flexibility to waive policies and codes that restrict student learning. Since January 2015, over 80 grants have been awarded to schools. Innovation Zones are already demonstrating results.

RELEASE: Vermont Providing Personalized Learning Options for Students

Vermont’s new policy allows high school students to pursue applied or work-based learning opportunities, including internships, as part of their graduation plan. It also requires a Personalized Learning Plan for all students in grades 7-12. This plan ensures students, families and schools are all engaged in the learning process.
